The Slate Hotel

Our first hotel in Phuket was The Slate Hotel. As a large resort only five minutes away from the airport, this place had a lot on offer to make you not want to leave and venture out! We stayed in a gorgeous villa with Private Pool, which you may have caught on stories. The room came complete with a butler, separate living and dining section, sauna, steam room and even private massage room. I’ve never experienced a villa with this many private features. We all had a massage called the ‘Coqoon Rebirth’, it was a truly luxurious experience.

Beyond the room you’ll find several dining areas, each as a unique experience. These included:

TIN MINE – An al fresco pavilion surrounded by shimmering waters

BLACK GINGER – Discover the true tastes of Phuket. A modern MASTERPIECE of Thai art, Black Ginger is designed like a traditional mansion hovering over a luminescent lagoon.

SHORE THING – Experience Rustic Grill on the soft sands of Nai Yang Beach.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to experience Shore Thing on our last night due to a sudden storm, but were able to see the setting that guests would normally dine under and it looked so relaxing with a beach breeze coming in. The night prior we tried Black Ginger, and it’s super cool because you get transferred to the restaurant via a roped raft. You literally can’t just show up to this one, as bookings are essential.

During our stay here we visited Samet Nangshe for sunrise and James Bond Island as a day trip, and the concierge was super helpful to make sure it was all planned and a smooth experience for everyone. We hired a private driver and the drive was roughly one hour each way. It cost roughly 70USD per person. I would highly recommend visiting both spots in the early morning to avoid the crowds.

The hotel itself has so much history, as the family who started it worked in the Tin industry. As a result you’ll see a lot of Tin used around the hotel and the architecture has a very industrial vibe. I loved how unique the reception was from other hotels, yet still manages to keep the luxury element throughout. Despite being hosted here I’d highly recommend choosing The Slate if you ever find yourself visiting Phuket!
